"History in Miniature: The 150th Anniversary of Stamp Issuance in Hong Kong" Stamp Exhibition

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of stamp issuance in Hong Kong, a roving stamp exhibition entitled "History in Miniature: The 150th Anniversary of Stamp Issuance in Hong Kong" is scheduled to be held at the Hong Kong Museum of History from 19 December 2012 to 16 January 2013, at the Postal Gallery of the General Post Office from 21 January 2013 to 28 February 2013, then at the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre in Kowloon Park from 4 March 2013 to 14 April 2013, and at the Hong Kong International Airport from 8 April 2013 to 10 May 2013.

Objectives

The Stamp Exhibition aims to mark the 150th anniversary of stamp issuance in Hong Kong, showcasing the evolution of Hong Kong stamps over the past 150 years and the unfading charm of stamps.

Admission

Admission is free of charge for the general public. The exhibition period is scheduled as below:

    (*Closed at 5pm on 24 December 2012)
Postal Gallery, General Post Office From 21 January 2013 to 28 February 2013
  • Mondays to Saturdays: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Sundays and Public Holidays: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre

Exhibition Content

The stamp exhibition consists of seven parts:-

(1) The Birth of Hong Kong Stamps
(2) Hong Kong Stamps before the Second World War
(3) Hong Kong Stamps during the Japanese Occupation
(4) Hong Kong Stamps after the Second World War
(5) Hong Kong Stamps after the Handover
(6) Design and Printing of Stamps
(7) Postage Rates and Commodity Prices

Exhibits at Hong Kong International Airport

Selected special stamps with distinctive features will be on display at the exhibition venue, supplemented by historical photographs. In addition, the stamps, stamp sheetlets and the associated philatelic products of "The 150th Anniversary of Stamp Issuance in Hong Kong" released on 8 December 2012 will be on display.

Note:

  • No commemorative cachet will be provided for the exhibition at the Hong Kong International Airport.
